Star Trek: The Next Generation or ST:TNG for short is a pin I've always wanted to own since playing one at Put-Put Golf in Rockville, MD back in 1994. As a huge fan of the television series and movies, this pin does the franchise justice. Its one the best if not the best television based genre pins that was ever produced with possibly the exception of The Twilight Zone. Williams spared no expense in designing this wide body super pin.
ST:TNG really encompasses what a great pinball experience should be. The colorful artwork surrounding the cabinet is easy on the eyes and complements the games atmosphere. The playfield artwork is equally rich in detail with all of Star Treks Nemeses present including the Ferengi, Romulans, Cardasians and even the relentless Borg. After starting a game the theme from Star Trek kicks in and the player is immediately greeted by Captain Picard. His voice and the other cast members all lent their talents in announcing game status and commands to players. The rule set is simple for beginning players yet challenges the skills of a seasoned player. There are 8 missions to complete including; Time Rift, Worm Hole, Search the Galaxy, Battle Simulation, Q's Challenge, Rescue, Asteroid Threat and Final Frontier. The playfield has incredible flow to it that includes several wildly oriented ramps. There are 2 probe launchers/cannons that are used to fire at targets and ramps throughout the playfield. Its a very unique feature that I've seen in ST:TNG. The Dot Matrix Display (DMD) animations are very detailed and simulate the view screen of the bridge of the Enterprise. ST:TNG pinball machine has 3 videos modes. 2 of them are "hidden" and the 3rd one is the default one that anyone can play. ST:TNG features some of the best sounds with its DCS sound system. Wrapped up with several multi-ball modes including a 6 ball multi-ball challenge and you have a total Star Trek themed package. Oh yeah, there's also a ton of lights, toys and other cool stuff littered all over the playfield.
